Chemical Peel Care Guide
Pre-Treatment:
1. Discontinue all use of retinoids, chemical exfoliating agents, and topical prescription acne medication for at least 72 hours before the treatment. Failure to do so may compromise the skin's integrity and result in skin lifting.
2. If you sunbathe or use tanning salons, avoid sun exposure (natural or artificial) for a minimum of 72 hours before your service. Peeling services will not be performed if any redness due to sun exposure is present on the skin.
3. Discontinue all use of antibiotics two weeks prior to your peeling service.
4. Avoid microdermabrasion and other chemical peeling services for 2 weeks before your peeling service.
5. Refrain from waxing 72 hours before your peeling service.
6. If you have a history of cold sores, pre-treat 2 days before your treatment. Obtain a prescription from your primary care provider.
7. Expect downtime of 10-14 days, so avoid planning procedures within two weeks of events like weddings or photoshoots.
Post-Treatment:
1. Limit sun exposure as much as possible for 2-4 weeks following your peeling service.
2. Avoid tanning beds entirely, particularly in the 4 weeks following a chemical peel.
3. Apply mineral SPF daily, reapplying as necessary during prolonged exposure.
4. Refrain from strenuous exercise and activities for 24 hours post-service.
5. Wash gently only with hands and treat with the recommended aftercare.
6. Avoid manually exfoliating the treated area for 3 weeks following the peeling service.
7. Do not apply any acid or retinol-based products for at least 2 weeks after the peeling service.
8. Resist picking at your skin as it sheds; premature desquamation can cause hyperpigmentation and scarring.
